Open Eye opens
November 9th, 2011 by Tim RileyWe are delighted to announce that the Open Eye Gallery is now open to the public. We attended the opening ceremony on Friday and are very pleased with the response from those present. It was great to see the Covered Public Realm space being used and we hope that the Gallery has many other events in there.
Each gallery space has a different character and it was interesting how well suited the spaces and the artists work are, from Mitch Epsteins’ American Power in the Main Exhibition Galleries to Chris Steele Perkins’ The Pleasure Principle in the more intimate Archive Gallery. We were particularly impressed with S Mark Gubbs installation on the Western Wall which references the dazzle camouflage developed in the adjacent docks.
We took the opportunity to visit the Museum of Liverpool and were shocked by how ill-conceived the interiors are and appalled by the cost – At a cost of £72million Liverpool deserves so much better.
I recommend anyone leaving the Museum of Liverpool in a hazy depression wanting to throw themselves in the Mersey, to instead visit the Open Eye Gallery to cheer themselves up!
