RCKa’s Meadow Street Redevelopment wins Housing Design Award

July 21st, 2011 by Tim O'Callaghan

On Thursday night, Tim and I attended the Housing Design Awards, held amidst the corridors of power at Portcuillis house opposite the Palace of Westminster. The awards are in their 63rd year and are a fantastic showcase for good housing and are judged, not only on architectural merit but also on urban design, regeneration and community consultation and are held in high esteem by the industry.

The awards were announced on the night creating an atmosphere of rare anticipation and excitement. To our delight we were announced as one of the project winners for our Meadow Street Scheme for Community Gateway Association, with the judges praising the urban design and detailing that referenced the adjoining Victorian Square. We joined some very strong winning schemes including a small rural development by Riches Hawley Mickael, an elegant Peabody scheme by Haworth Tompkins and a fantastic development by Allies & Morrison and Maccreanor Lavington in Bow.

It was also encouraging to see so many of our peers at the awards such as Mae, Loop and Karakusevic Carson and be part of an emerging group of young architects raising the standards of housing design.

It was a great evening and we’re very proud to join a long list of worthy winners of the HDA’s.
