Application made for Meadow Street
November 25th, 2010 by Tim RileyWe are pleased to announce that our planning application has been made for Meadow Street, Preston. The proposals have been amended following consultation with The Planning Department, Places Matter and the local community and the original vision and urban design response are broadly similar to the competition winning scheme. We are pleased to report that all parties consulted have been supportive of our proposals and look forward to them being presented to the planning committee on 7th February 2011. It has been challenging trying to achieving the most appropriate scheme for a difficult infill site and at the same time incorporating best practice in housing and urban design terms. This has led to a more interesting scheme as a result, which, we are very happy with.
From an architectural design perspective we have been praised with the ‘boldness of approach’ but managed to respect the context and provide for the diverse mix of housing needs of the area from bungalows to large family houses. This took the form of a Georgian Terrace approach with a parapet concealing the pitched roofs behind which defers back to details found on the Late Georgian/Early Victorian terraces of St. Ignatius Square. It allows for the varying heights to be accommodated and gives the scheme a unique character, harmonious with with its surroundings.
